The sky turned dark as she sat in her room, water droplets ran down the window. Her parents were out working the night shift and they would only be back in the morning.

The day before, her parents had a huge argument again, glass shattered and screams reaching as far as the ears could hear. She was the only reason, they weren’t divorced. If she wasn’t born her mother would have already left her monster of a husband.

Her father was a horrible man; he would lie to her mother saying that he was going on a business trip when he was going somewhere with some slut he found at a bar, he often visited, when her mother was asleep dreaming about the life she could have had.

How does she know this? Every night, she would wake up to tears and muffled screams. Holding her stuffed bunny that she got from her father on her 2nd birthday, her footsteps could be heard ever so softly as she pitter-pattered across the floorboard towards the sounds. There she would watch her mother crying every night while she sat outside the room, watching through the little crack in between the door. Poor little Lizy was puzzled about what to do, what could she do.

The daddy that she once knew was gone. All he cared about now was sex, money and himself, little Lizy doesn’t even know why he married her mother in the first place. Every time she looked into her mother’s eyes all she could see was regret.

Her father wasn’t always like this; he was an amazing father once. He would bring her out for her favourite cotton candy ice cream whenever she was down, and he would always make up some cheesy joke just to make her laugh. But all of that changed.

It was the usual Monday afternoon and her first day of school had just ended, she was at the parking lot waiting for her father to pick her up, people came and left till the parking lot was completely empty but her father still never came. Awhile later, her mother showed up apologizing.

Her father stopped answering her calls that day. When he finally came home, Lizy was overjoyed and filled with questions. She asked and asked her father about why he wasn’t there to pick her up, but he just ignored her. On and on, innocent little Lizy shouted, she questioned and questioned but the answer never came. The only thing she received was the first beating she got from her father. The first of many.

Lizy could never understand what happened to her father and mother. Truth be told, how much could a little girl understand? All she understood was that a monster had taken her real parents away.

She drew up a plan, a plan to defeat the monster and bring back her once loving parents. She went around the house looking for magical weapons that she could use to fight the battle. Magic potions and blessed weapons to repel the evil away. Just like how the knight saves the day, Lizy will be that knight today. She needed the Pure Light of Heaven, potion to poison the beast and her trusty sword that can cut through evil.

With all things obtained and plan fully remembered, she set out on her quest. She peeked through the tiny hole in her door that her father had made when he threw a hammer at.

She saw shadowed figures outside her door thrashing the place. There they were. She climbed out the window just as the hooded figure came stomping into her room. As light shined on the figure, she could see its mouth slit open with blood flowing out from all the edges of its’ lips right up to the side of its face and the dark eyes of a being who only knows death.

She was scared, but to save her parents. This was what she needed to do.

She tried climbing out the window, but it was too fast and it grabbed her leg. She tried kicking it, but its grip was too strong. She grabbed on to the side of the window, not letting go and saw the glass bottle she used to keep wishes in. She took it and hit the monster’s head and his grip loosened.

She took the chance and fled out the window. She was on the roof now running away, her breath was heavy, and she was wheezing. Taking in whatever breath she could, she turned to face it. Its eyes now glowing red and white claws shining under the moonlight. Her little sun dress was soaked, and her damp hair was blocking her view. Light crashed, and the rain got heavier as Lizy gripped onto her weapon.

Readying herself,

she ran towards the monster. Both her and the monster screaming as they crossed blades. Again, and again she strikes but to no avail, the monster still stands. She cried for her parents, she screamed in anger at the monster who took them away from her. Lizy, losing her footing on the slippery tiles on the roof. The monster screamed as she threw the vile of potion at it. The monster screamed in pain, and as Lizy was starting to see hope in defeating the monster, a ray of white light hit the antenna and blew her off the roof. Not fully formed bones cracked on the cold, wet ground as she laid there. What happened she asked herself, she almost succeeded in her quest. Mommy and Daddy was going to come back. The little girl who fought so bravely was now losing blood on the cold pavement.

She stared at the cloudy night sky as a warm teardrop rolled down her cheeks. She wondered where her parents were, she cried in pain as she failed to save them. Her tears mixed with her blood as she started slowly losing consciousness. She could someone shouting as she closed her eyes, Lizy, Lizy Lizy, the voice said. She opened her eyes and what she saw was her parents, both crying over her. Mommy and Daddy were finally back. Just as she smiled, closed her eyes one last time, she said:

I did it”.
